The government authorities have announced that starting from the 11th of April 2022, Residence visa stickers will be replaced with the Emirates ID in the UAE. This means the UAE residents will no longer have a visa sticker stamped on their passports. The details of their visa status will be included in the Emirates ID. This initiative will bring several benefits including passport safety and quick service.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship (ICA) confirmed the move on Tuesday, stating that it was a Cabinet decision of the UAE. The ICA issued a circular to General Civil airlines stating that they can now verify the residency status using the passport number and Emirates ID of the resident.
Al Rashidi confirmed that the authority has developed all the required technical facilities to obtain residents’ details through a printed form that can be applied with the Authority’s stamp, or by accessing the Authority’s application through a user’s account or using the smart services system available via the website. The smart services system allows the printing of residents’ details in just three steps proving the present and past identity of the individuals in one system.
